Social Work Alumni Association

Social Work established a formal Alumni Association in February 2007.

The aims of the Association are to:

  • work within the overall strategic goals of the Faculty and the University in relation to Alumni Associations
  • assist in building the professional networks and financial resource base of Social Work at the University
  • highlight the achievements of social work graduates in the University and in the broader community
  • host an annual alumni dinner and other occasional informal events for targeted groups of alumni throughout the year
  • take on specific activities and projects such as: securing funding for a formal history of Social Work at Melbourne; developing a network of mentors who might assist with the hosting of international students and visitors; raising funds for dedicated social work scholarships

Events 2009

  • A successful cocktail reception and dinner were held on 8 October 2009 with guest speaker The Hon Bill Shorten MP. (Photos from the event...)
  • A graduate cocktail party was held at the School on Wednesday 13 May. Recent graduates spoke about their careers and shared tips on entering the profession. 
  • Welcome drinks were hosted for incoming MSW students on 20 February, during Orientation Week.
  • 70th Anniversary: did you know that social work started at The University of Melbourne in January 1941? 2011 will be our 70th Anniversary, and the Alumni Association is planning a big celebration. Details well appear on this web page as they become available. Professor John Langmore and Ms Kathy Sanders are chairing the 70th Anniversary Committee.
