An Honours degree prepares you for future graduate research studies. It places emphasis on developing your capacity to question and critique current social work practice and to undertake and write up a piece of research.

Selection takes place at the end of the second year.
Applicants are required to have an overall average of H2A in the first and second years, and a pass at the first attempt of 196-007 Communication Skills for Human Services and 196-008 Supervised Professional Practice 1.

NB: Former BSW students meeting the required academic standard are eligible, provided they apply within five years of completing their degree.
Those accepted into the Honours degree will be required to complete two components:
1. 196-518 Critical Issues in Social Work
2. Research project and 12,000 word thesis (see 196-517 Social Work Thesis)
As well, in order to make up the 100 points required for an Honours degree, your final Honours grading will also take into account your marks for the following subjects:
