Once you have successfully completed the Master of Social Work you can apply for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). There is no legal registration for social workers in any Australian state. However, the AASW is the standard-setting body for social work in Australia, and many jobs require eligibility for membership of the AASW.
Please refer to the professional accreditation section.
As a qualified social worker you will have many employment opportunities and may choose to specialise in a particular area of social work. Once you have at least two years of post-qualifying work experience you may apply to study for the Master of Advanced Social Work.
Once you have completed your first social work degree you may wish to pursue a career in social work research. The Master of Social Work contains a significant research component allowing students to apply directly for graduate research degrees. We offer a PhD and a Master of Philosophy program.
