Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)
Purpose
An Honours degree is designed to prepare students for future higher degree studies. It places emphasis on developing the capacity to question and critique current social work practice and to undertake and write up a piece of research.

Eligibility: Currently Enrolled Students
- BSW Three Year Program
Selection takes place at the end of the second year.
Applicants are required to have an overall average of H2A in the first and second years a pass at the first attempt of Communication Skills for Human Services and Supervised Professional Practice 1
- BSW Two Year program
Selection takes place at the end of the first year.
Applicants are required to an overall average of H2A in the first year
a pass at the first attempt of Communication Skills for Human Services and Supervised Professional Practice 1
NB: Former BSW students meeting the required academic standard are eligible, provided they apply within five years of completion of their degree.
Honours Program
Those accepted into the BSW Honours program will be required to complete two components.
1. 196-518 Critical Issues in Social Work
2. Research project and 12,000 word thesis
As well, in order to make up the 100 points required for an Honours degree, your final Honours grading will also take into account your marks for the following subjects
*Social Work Practice with Families
*Social Work Practice Research
*Social Work Programming
Advanced Practice Methods Laboratory
NB: *These subjects involve some assessment based on group assignments and Honours students may choose to negotiate an individual assignment with Coordinators of these subjects.
